Good news for Nevadans…or is it? News came out today five major banks are planing to give some foreclosed homeowners up to $2,000 cash back because they lost their homes. For people who are still paying they plan on reducing the principle of up to $20,000.

This sounds good but as many as you know $20,000 isn’t going to help much in Nevada. We were hit so hard that many of the homes might be worth half of the loan amount.

Is it really fair that those who had to foreclose get up to $2000? What about the people who are staying in their homes and paying mortgages. Where is their bail out?

When purchasing a home there is a lot of paperwork. You will never spend more money on something else in your lifetime. Read the paperwork. Know what you are getting into.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away, Las Vegas was the 18th fastest-growing city in the world, according to the Brookings Institute.

In the height of the recession, the Brookings Global MetroMonitor rated Las Vegas 199 out of 200. We beat out Athens, Greece, the globe’s poster child for horrible economies, as the worst economy in the world.

This year Athens is still ranked last. And Detroit (Detroit!) and Cleveland are above us. However, we are now N0. 179. That means we are growing!!!!!

For the record, Shanghai ranked No. 1. Dallas, Houston and Rochester, New York were the only American cities in the top 50 in 2011.

Job growth (hopefully) means stablizing home prices. Keep those green shoots coming.

In four years and 100,000 houses later. So says Larry Murphy, president of Las Vegas-based SalesTraq. He’s been tracking real estate recording in Clark County for 15 years, so he has the numbers to back up his guesstimate.

According to Murphy:

75 percent of homes sold last year were distressed sales (foreclosures or short sales)

More than half of those were vacant

Prices are still falling, but “no longer free falling.” He says prices have bounced around the bottom for the last eight months.

When it’s all over, he estimates 33 percent of all homes in Las Vegas will have gone through a foreclosure.

Thought all y’all (plural of y’all if you haven’t lived in Texas) would want to know.

Coming to Las Vegas and not even considering leaving the canine at home? No problem if you know where to go.

If you’re not driving, you will first set foot in Las Vegas at McCarran International Airport. Take your dog out of the travel crate and heel down to the Southwest Airlines ticket counter. Go out that door and there’s a doggie relief area.

The Imperial Palace is the only hotel on the Strip I know of that allows dogs. The program is called PetStay. The room has a mat, foot and water dishes (so you don’t have to pack ‘em), disposable waste bags and treats. There’s a special dog relief area–just follow the paws to the place. (It’s by the parking garage elevators.) The hotel has dog walking routes and a special room service menu. The Palace even has a list of veterinarians in case your dog gets sick.

All for just $35 a night!

The rules include:

1. The dog must weigh under 50 pounds

2. The dog must be present at check in

3. You can only bring two dogs

4. The dog is allowed to walk through designated common areas on a leash.

5. You must crate the dog when you are gone. You can rent a kennel if your dog didn’t fly in one.

Y’all come and visit and bring the livestock, ya hear!

((hugs))

While casinos and computers do not necessarily go together, execs at McCarran International Airport think they do. The airport began offering free wi-fi Internet for all travelers in 2004. (And it’s screaming fast!!!!) Last week the airport joined forces with Google to create a detailed map of the airport. Once Android phone users download Google maps, they can zoom in through the airport’s roof and go directly into the terminals.

Travelers can see which restaurants and shops are available on the other side of secuity. They can find restrooms and power stations to recharge their phones or iPads (just as necessary these days.)

Other tips for all y’all (that’s plural for y’all in case you didn’t come from Texas like me) who are unfamiliar with McCarran airport:

You can use the mobile boarding pass feature at Alaska, American, Continental, Delta and United Airlines.

You can find up-to-date weather info that affects flights on facebook.com/lasairport or at Twitter.com/lasairport.

Log on to fly.mccaran.com to have flight status 411 sent to your phone. The local phone number is 702.261.4636.

All y’all come visit, ya hear?

((hugs))
